Split group expenses: who paid, who owes, fewest transfers
How it works
Add the people first, then for every expense enter the amount, who paid and who shares it. The tool computes each person's net balance (total paid − total share) and produces the shortest list of payments that settles all debts.
| Example | Paid by | Shared by | Per head |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groceries 90 | Ali | Ali, Ayşe, Can | 30 |
| Fuel 60 | Ayşe | Ali, Ayşe | 30 |
| Coffee 15 | Can | Ayşe, Can | 7.50 |
Ali paid 90 with a share of 60 → +30 owed. Ayşe paid 60 with a share of 67.50 → −7.50 owes. Can paid 15 with a share of 37.50 → −22.50 owes. Settlement: Can → Ali 22.50, Ayşe → Ali 7.50.
When to use it
Holidays and road trips, flatmate bills and groceries, office lunches, birthday or wedding organisation — any time money leaves several pockets and everyone wants to know their fair share.
Sharing the result
"Copy result" puts the balances and the transfer list on your clipboard as plain text, ready to paste into the group chat.
Frequently asked questions
Is every expense split equally?
Equally among the people you tick for that expense. The payer does not have to be one of the sharers.
What does 'fewest transfers' mean?
Each person's net balance (paid minus share) is computed, then the largest creditor is matched with the largest debtor until everyone is square. A group of six usually settles in 3–5 payments instead of dozens.
Where is my data stored?
Only in this browser's local storage. Nothing is sent anywhere; it survives closing the tab but will not appear on another device.
Can I remove a person later?
Before any expense is entered, yes. Once expenses exist people are locked to keep the ledger consistent; use 'Clear ledger' to start over.
